JSpell Evolution is an AJAX Based Spell Checker
The JSpell Evolution AJAX spell checker is designed for modern browsers and is cross platform compatible. The AJAX spell checker takes advantage of features offered in modern browsers including the XMLHTTPRequest object. Our AJAX based spell checker is tested and supported on the Firefox browser under Windows, Macintosh and Linux. JSpell Evolution is also compatible with Internet Explorer 5.5 through IE7. Limited support for Opera 9.0 is available and full support is planned.
Standard HTML <TEXTAREA> tags using JSpell Evolution AJAX Spell Checker
JSpell Evolution installs on your web server and is compatible
with any server side page generation technology including HTML, JSP, ASP .NET, CGI, PHP, Lotus Domino and more.
The JSpell Evolution AJAX spell checker will work with standard HTML form input fields (<input type=text> and <textarea>), contentEditable DIV and IFrame controls and pretty much anything else that you can type into on a web page.
JSpell Evolution uses its own lightweight failsafe AJAX framework and communication mechanism which we
have found to be much more stable than any other commercial or open-source AJAX framework. The internal AJAX
framework is not accessible from outside JSpell and it will not interfere with any existing AJAX framework that
you may already be using. Note: we have achieved the best performance and usability with real-time
spell check on text input fields that are no more than one page in length. If your text input fields consistently
contain more text than is visible at one time on the page you should consider using the traditional spell check mode
instead of real-time.
"Did You Mean?" Feature
Using JSpell Evolution you can also implement functionality similar to the "Did You Mean?" feature found on popular search engines such as Google Suggest. This capability allows you to automatically correct text that is entered into a field without requiring user intervention or refreshing a page for search results.
The correction will automatically remove repeated words and replace incorrect words (the incorrect word is replaced with the first suggested replacement that would normally be suggested by our spell checker engine).
The capability exists to build custom dictionaries that work against a specific vocabulary. For example, you could limit the suggestions to valid words in your search index, a parts database, etc.
